With just one day to go until the US elections, the country has an average of 81,336 new Covid-19 cases per day, according to Johns Hopkins University. Several swing states currently have the highest average number of new cases.

Here’s a quick look at Covid-19 in each of the major battlefield states:

Arizona

In Arizona, an average of 1,330 new Covid-19 cases are currently reported each day. According to Johns Hopkins University, new cases are up 33% from last week. Hospital stays had declined sharply since the summer, but are now increasing sharply, according to The Covid Tracking Project. Arizona currently has an average of 872 hospitalizations per day, an 8% increase from last week. Arizona does not have a nationwide mask mandate.

Florida

In Florida, an average of 4,111 new Covid-19 cases are currently reported each day. According to Johns Hopkins University, new cases are up 22% from last week. According to the Johns Hopkins University, Florida has had an average of more than 1,000 new cases per day for an average of 149 days since June 6. The state has the third highest cumulative number of cases and the fourth highest death rate in the nation. Florida does not have a nationwide mask mandate.

Michigan

Michigan is at the peak of new cases, reporting around 3,113 new cases every day for the past seven days – up 50% from last week. According to The Covid Tracking Project, hospital stays across the state are not even close to their peak in April, but have exceeded 1,000 a day since October 15. In Michigan, face masks must be worn in public places nationwide.

North Carolina

North Carolina is at the peak of its new cases, reporting around 2,370 new cases a day for the past seven days – an 18% increase from last week. According to The Covid Tracking Project, hospitals treat an average of 1,183 patients per day – that’s roughly the same as the state’s numbers in the summer. The governor said the state will stay in phase 3 of the reopening as cases and hospitalizations have increased in recent weeks. In North Carolina, face masks must be worn in public places nationwide.

Pennsylvania

There are an average of 2,243 new cases per day in Pennsylvania, according to Johns Hopkins University. This is the highest number the state’s new daily cases have ever had – a 31% increase from last week. According to data from the Covid Tracking Project, hospital stays across the state have increased sharply since late September. In Pennsylvania, face masks must be worn in public places nationwide.

Wisconsin

Wisconsin has an average of 4,385 new cases per day – a 4% decrease from last week, according to Johns Hopkins University. Deaths across the state have been at a record high since the pandemic began. In the past seven days, an average of 38 people died per day. Hospital stays in the state are at their highest level since the pandemic began. In Wisconsin, face masks must be worn in public places nationwide.
