Dahlkemper is at the US national team’s training camp in Orlando. A team spokesperson said she was not available for comment. Neither the courage nor her agent wanted to comment. A Manchester City spokeswoman did not return a message.
The 27-year-old Dahlkemper has played 62 games for the national team and is considered one of the best central defenders in the world. She started at the 2019 World Cup in France.
Aside from the Manchester City trio, Tobin Heath and Christen Press (Manchester United) and Alex Morgan (Tottenham Hotspur) were the other Americans who jumped from the NWSL to the FA Women’s Super League in the past six months. Morgan has since returned to the NWSL.
Dahlkemper is about to leave when attacker Catarina Macario, a Stanford star and US national team, signed a 2½-year contract with European champion Olympique Lyonnais on Tuesday.
When asked about US stars voting for leagues overseas, in part because of higher salaries, Commissioner Lisa Baird said Tuesday: “As our league continues to grow, we will continue to invest in our players to attract and retain the best talent. That costs resources. … We are seriously trying [with team owners] To create a long-term strategic plan that will absolutely help us along the way to define what we need to do to remain competitive in the global marketplace. “
Meanwhile, potential U.S. national team Brianna Pinto will be leaving the University of North Carolina after the spring season to play in the NWSL. It is expected to be among the top picks on the draft.
Washington state freshman Trinity Rodman, a preeminent American under 20 and daughter of former NBA star Dennis Rodman, signed up for the NWSL draft on Monday. She also weighs options overseas.
Baird announced that Sacramento will enter the league in 2022, increasing the number of teams to 12. Racing Louisville will start the game this year and Angel City (Los Angeles) will start in 2022.
