Your Complete Guide for Pilots and Series Orders
Written by O’Connell, Accessible is a half-hour “trauma” that follows Clare, a 15-year-old girl who recently had an accident and is forced to attend boarding school for people with all types of disabilities. There she discovers that the common teenage dilemmas of sex, love, and friendship in a wheelchair are even more complicated. It’s like having a John Hughes movie per producer having a disabled orgy.
O’Connell Executive produces with Parsons and Spiewak through That’s Wonderful Productions. Eric Norsoph, Head of Development and Production at That’s Wonderful, will jointly produce and oversee the project for the company. Warner Bros. TV is the studio.
Accessible continues the relationship between O’Connell and That’s Wonderful Productions. The company produces Special, a semi-autobiographical series loosely based on O’Connell’s own upbringing and experience as a gay man navigating the world with cerebral palsy. O’Connell received four Emmy nominations for writing, producing, and starring the Netflix series, based on his memoir I’m Special: And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves.
O’Connell has also written for publications such as the New York Times, Vice and Vulture, and television, including Awkward, Will & Grace from MTV and The Babysitters Club from Netflix. He has won a GLAAD Award, an HRC Award, and this year made the list of Time 100 Next as one of the up-and-coming young artists shaping the future of their industry.
In addition to Special, That’s Wonderful is producing the upcoming Fox comedy series Call Me Kat, which is based on the British format Miranda and stars Mayim Bialik in the lead role of Darlene Hunt and directed by Beth McCarthy Miller. In addition, Parsons and Spiewak are executive producers, and Norsoph is co-producer of the CBS comedy series Young Sheldon.
O’Connell is re-listed by Management 360. That’s Wonderful Productions is being re-performed by CAA, Principal Entertainment LA and Gang, Tire, Ramer & Brown.
