The hawks said they would work remotely on Thursday. The status of their game against the Minnesota Vikings in Minneapolis, scheduled for Sunday, was not immediately clear.

“As a precaution after a new positive test, we made the decision to stop all personal work at IBM Performance Field on Thursday and to perform all operations virtually,” said the Falcons in a written statement. “This decision was made in consultation with the NFL and medical officials. The health and safety of our team is our top priority. ”

The Falcons were at their facility training Wednesday after putting rookie defender Marlon Davidson on their Covid-19 reserve list Tuesday after testing positive.

The Carolina Panthers, who competed against the Falcons in Atlanta last Sunday, announced Wednesday that they are operating under extended coronavirus protocols set by the league for teams with coronavirus cases that have been exposed to cases.

The NFL has postponed a number of games over the past two weekends while dealing with a coronavirus outbreak at the Tennessee Titans and positive testing with other teams. The Titans had 21 members of their organization, including 12 players, who tested positive during an 11-day shutdown of their facility that ended last Saturday. In total, the Titans have tested positive for 24 members of the organization, including 13 players, since September 24.

The Titans defeated the Buffalo Bills in Nashville on Tuesday night in a rescheduled game. It was the Titans’ first game since September 27, and it was only the second NFL game in 74 years to be played on a Tuesday.

The New England Patriots will play the Denver Broncos in Foxborough, Massachusetts this Sunday after last Sunday’s game was postponed. The Patriots activated quarterback Cam Newton from their reserve list for Covid-19 on Wednesday so he could train on Thursday and possibly play on Sunday. Newton tested positive for the coronavirus, a person familiar with the result confirmed October 3.

The Patriots played a postponed game in Kansas City two days later, on a Monday night, without Newton. Cornerback Stephon Gilmore played in that game but confirmed two days later that he had tested positive for the coronavirus.

NFL officials said Tuesday they are considering adding an 18th week to the regular season to include more rescheduled games, but only if they can’t play all of the games on the current schedule.

“We reiterated today that we can’t get complacent – not the players, not the coaches, not the rest of our staff,” said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell Tuesday after a remote meeting of the team owners. “Ninety percent [compliance with protocols] is not good enough in this environment. ”
