In addition, the Bilibili deal provides better access to the BBC Studios’ script and entertainment series. The service, which secured a $ 400 million investment from Sony earlier this year, has acquired the fantasy drama The Watch, as well as established series like Top Gear and Doctor Who.

Lisa Opie, Managing Director of BBC Studios UK Production said, “With the excellent storytelling heritage, production craft and cutting-edge technology of BBC Studios, we can play an important role in developing more exciting stories for Bilibili that will and will serve the Chinese market for the rest of the world. “

Li Ni, Vice Chairman and COO of Bilibili, said, “We are excited to deepen our collaboration by entering into a strategic partnership with BBC Studios. Documentary is one of the most popular categories of content among our users … BBC Studios not only brings valuable production expertise to the table, but it has strong brand awareness and influence around the world. “

Bilibili, which includes content such as animation, comics, games, user-generated videos, and streaming, was first released in 2010. According to data from online ticketing platform Maoyan, users spent 111 minutes a day on Bilibili earlier this year, making it the most popular streamer in China through this move.
