Former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum said no other fighter on the planet could match his successes en route to the 2021 PFL heavyweight season.

Brazilian heavyweight Werdum left the UFC earlier this year after battling his contract and after considering his options, decided to sign the Professional Fighters League, better known as the PFL, with the American organization.

The organization runs differently from most other MMA promotions, using a league format followed by end-of-season playoffs culminating in the season championship. A fighter from each weight class wins this season’s PFL championship plus a check for $ 1 million.

A host of fighters are signed for the upcoming 2021 season, including Werdum, who said he plans to jump into the promotion with a bang and win the promotion heavyweight championship at the end of the season.

The 2021 heavyweight will include former UFC activist Justin Willis and aspiring junior player Mohammed Usman, as well as the undefeated reigning champion of 2019 Ali Isaev.

Despite references from Werdum’s likely opposition, the Brazilian, who wins on his record against Fedor Emelianenko and Cain Velasquez, says his résumé surpasses anyone the PFL could add to the division.

“It will be very difficult for someone to get the awards I got for the PFL,” he told RT Sport.

“I’m already a grappling champion, jiu-jitsu champion, MMA champion, and now I’m going to add even more with the PFL championship. It will be very difficult for someone to get that award.”
