With all of the excited discussions around the sport over the possible comeback of Khabib Nurmagomedov, the UFC star’s coach urged people to just put the brakes on.

Javier Mendez, head coach of the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, California, took over the duties of head coach at Khabib after the untimely death of his father and coach Abdulmanap last year.

And the former Kickboxing Star MMA coach said he agreed with Khabib’s claim that he must have a special fight ahead of him to lure him out of retirement.

But he also made one crucial point – he would have to get his mother’s permission first.

“I agree (it must be a special struggle for him to come back). But we also have to remember one thing: he must also get his mother’s permission,” Mendez told RT Sport in Abu Dhabi.

“Mother’s plan. She has to agree. He can say ‘yes’ but he has to follow Mother.

“He said, ‘I made a promise to mother.’ Well, she didn’t give me permission. The great person he is, if he decides to come back and thinks someone is worthy, he has to ask Mother too. “

Of course, talk of Khabib’s possible return has rekindled the hype over a possible rematch against Conor McGregor, and with both men currently in Abu Dhabi, Mendez said the UFC would be well advised to keep the two heated rivals well apart.

“I would think they (the UFC) would try to avoid (a meeting), that would be wise,” he said.

“I think 100 percent that it makes sense to avoid these meetings … Conor as a fighter is fantastic, one of the best I’ve ever seen, but as a person I don’t like him, I don’t like what he is I don’t think they should ever come into play for the fighting game, talk about junk but leave all other things alone.

“He’s done his research and attacked all of these things, it’s hard to forgive. It’s not just about business, we’re talking about family, religion and country. It’s hard on people. So there is no way I care him I don’t hate him, but I don’t particularly care about him. “

McGregor, meanwhile, has attempted to claim that Khabib was never crowned UFC lightweight champion simply because his victory over the Irish in the octagon was never officially announced.

“I’m the champion,” he told ESPN.

“Do you know that the uniform title was never crowned? The uniform title was never crowned back in October 2018.

“Khabib escaped from the cage and let me fight in the cage with his family members. The post-fight ceremony never took place.”
