Experts say this is not surprising. For one, India’s grueling Covid lockdown disrupted key government programs that benefit hundreds of millions of women and children. And second, Anganwadi workers who have been deployed in large numbers to monitor Covid and raise awareness of how to prevent it have yet to fully return to their original jobs. Centers in remote areas like Dahod are not yet fully functional.
