Meghan is pregnant with her second child, a spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who was confirmed to CNN on Sunday. The couple’s son, Archie, is 19 months old.
“We can confirm that Archie will be a big brother,” said the spokesman. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to have their second child.”
The announcement comes almost exactly 37 years after Prince Charles and Princess Diana announced that they were expecting their second child, Prince Harry.
A source close to Harry and Meghan said the couple told their families before the news was released on Sunday.
The couple’s announcement came with a black and white photo of the couple smiling gleefully at each other while sitting outside in the grass with Meghan having a visible baby bump.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman told CNN that Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and the entire royal family are “thrilled” and wishing them all the best.
In December, Harry and Meghan released a family Christmas card with Archie in his first public picture in months. The picture that appeared as an illustration was the first look at Archie since his first birthday in May. Harry and Meghan safeguarded Archie’s privacy, filing a lawsuit in July over paparazzi photos of him. The couple announced in November that Meghan miscarried over the summer. Harry and Meghan resigned from their roles as members of the British royal family early last year and moved to Santa Barbara, California in July.
