Meghan Markle and Prince Harry discussed online hate speech and misinformation during their remote appearance on the Time 100 special! Here’s what the famous couple had to say!
The country has been more divided than it has been in a very long time since Donald Trump was elected POTUS, and online is no exception as it is the main space for people to express themselves.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry believe that it is very important for people to reject all of the misinformation and hate speech that can be found on the internet in order to hopefully create a much more tolerant space for everyone.
Other than that, they just had to mention the upcoming presidential election as it’s just around the corner and there really needs to be a change.
“It’s six weeks before Election Day and today is National Voter Registration Day. Every 4 years we are told, “This is the most important choice of our life.” But it really is. When we vote, our values are put into action and our voices are heard, ”explained Meghan.
Then Harry continued, “As we approach November, it is important that we reject hate speech, misinformation and any online negativity. What we consume, what we are exposed to and what we deal with online really affects us all. ‘
The former Suits actress followed by reasoning that changing the way people interact online is starting with seeing the world through the lens of the community. Good neighbors look out for one another, protect one another and protect one another. Good neighbors also ensure that we are informed about our communities and the issues that affect us with fact, not fiction. ‘
It is no surprise that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are fighting for his cause as they have been very critical of the media in all its forms since they published their relationship.
Obviously, the UK tabloids were the most problematic for the couple, as they were harassing Meghan all the time.
Of course, the unfair treatment from the press also led Harry and Meghan to decide to leave the royal family and move to America with their son.
