World leaders are reacting this morning to news that US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for Covid-19.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson sent the presidential couple his “best wishes”. Johnson spent several days in an intensive care unit after being diagnosed with Covid-19 in April.
In a conference call with journalists on Friday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “We definitely wish President Trump a speedy recovery.”
Peskov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to get vaccinated and if he does, the Kremlin will make an announcement.
Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan also wished the Trumps a “speedy recovery”.
Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry also sent “best wishes” from the “Taiwanese people”.
European Council President Charles Michel said Covid-19 was “a fight we all continue to fight”.
Iraqi Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani said his “thoughts and prayers” were with the first couple.
Afghanistan’s Abdullah Abdullah, chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation, wished the couple a “speedy recovery”.
