Rafael Nadal was in threatening form when he destroyed America’s Mackenzie Donald in straight sentences to enter the third round of the French Open at Roland Garros.

Nadal pushed Donald aside 6: 1, 6: 0, 6: 3 on Wednesday as he came one step closer to conquering a record-breaking 13th French Open title.

The Spanish star, who is ranked 2nd for this year’s tournament, can also hit Roger Federer’s record of 20 men’s singles Grand Slam titles and looked at Roland Garros’ famous red clay in fine splendor when he presented Donald shot over and into the air third round in which he competes against either Kei Nishikori or Stefano Travaglia.

“My goal is to play as well as possible. It was a good game for me today. I’m very happy,” said Nadal.

“Then it’s a difficult game again. We’ll see, I hope I’m at a good level. It’s always special for me to play Philippe Chatrier here in Paris.

“It wasn’t that cold today, so that’s the main thing. Not that cold, the conditions aren’t that bad,” said the Spaniard, who had complained about the new balls in Paris.

“The ball is still heavy. When it’s not that cold, the ball is always a little less heavy. I don’t see the predictions for the next few days very well.”

If all goes well, Nadal could face Dominic Thiem in the semifinals. The pair met in the last two French Open finals, with Nadal winning both.

However, Thiem won his first Grand Slam title earlier this summer when he won the US Open title in Flushing Meadows.

Nadal, meanwhile, will be confident of achieving success on the sand at Roland Garros. The Spanish ace can boast an incredible 95-2 win-loss record at the tournament.
