#Roommates, maybe it was only a matter of time before one of the most popular features on social media finally found its place on a music streaming service – Spotify specifically. It was recently announced that Spotify is officially testing an Instagram-inspired story feature that will allow users to interact with their music in other ways.
@Verge reports that Spotify is reportedly the next to hit the “story” wave on social media. The popular music streaming service is now testing a new story feature alongside some of its playlists, which includes a series of short video clips sharing personal anecdotes about featured artists and their songwriting processes.
The videos can be accessed via an icon in the top left of any playlist supported by Spotify. Tapping the icon brings up an interface known to anyone who has ever seen an Instagram or Snapchat story. You can tap the left or right screen to skip a collection of short video clips.
Spotify confirmed the new feature in an official statement:
“At Spotify, we routinely run a series of tests to improve the user experience. Some of these tests pave the way for a wider user experience, others just serve as essential learning. We currently have no further news on future plans. “
Since it first debuted on Snapchat, stories have become more common on social media. Instagram is certainly the most famous and popular, but other services like YouTube, Twitter, and even the career networking site LinkedIn have all versions of the feature implemented. You may recall that Spotify tested stories with a feature called Storylines back in 2019.
