Tampa Bay took a 7-3 lead after the first quarter and added 14 more points before half-time, giving the Bucs a 21-6 lead in the second half. Kansas City would add just one field goal in the third quarter, sealing its fate with a 31-9 defeat, the eleventh-highest point differential in the history of the Super Bowl.

It was worse than that, however. The drubbing brought Super Bowl LV into the conversation for the least exciting Super Bowl ever – and that includes many of the boring Super Bowls from the 1980s.

The Post measured the “enjoyment level” of each Super Bowl by examining two factors on a scale of 0 to 100, with a higher number representing a more fun game. The first factor was the competitiveness and excitement of the game, measured by how tight the score was at the end of each quarter. The second was how fun the game was, measured by the fluctuations in overall odds – the steeper the dips and inclines, the better. The game on Sunday had neither tension nor fluctuations.

The Buccaneers created the perfect game plan and put Mahomes on 29 of his 56 dropbacks, the most quarterback in Super Bowl history per ESPN. The Buccaneers sacked the former MVP three times, limiting him to 270 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. He was also 3v13 on third relegation attempts and only 1v3 on fourth relegation attempts, which was one of the worst performances of his career. The Chiefs, in turn, only managed these nine points, their lowest offensive performance, with Mahomes starting under the middle.

Tampa Bay, on the other hand, had no problem finding the end zone. Brady threw three touchdown passes, two against Rob Gronkowski and one against Antonio Brown. When Leonard Fournette ran back, he added another and gave Tampa Bay its 31 points.

“They were the better team today,” said Mahomes. “They hit us pretty well, the worst I think I’ve been hit in a long time.

“They took our deep stuff away from us. They took away the sideline and did a good job getting involved in football and tackling one-offs. We didn’t execute early, had a few mistakes. Guys weren’t on the same page. Credit to them. They played a damn good game defensively and offensively to beat us. “

In terms of competitiveness and excitement, as measured by quarterly results, the game received a rating of 26 out of 100 on Sunday, making it the least competitive Super Bowl. It was worse on the pleasure scale; The overall odds of winning never fluctuated in the Chiefs’ favor, earning this competition 2 out of 100 because it was so fun to watch. Taken together, this brought Super Bowl LV a spot in the top 10 snoozers of all time, ranking 7th. Only eight other Super Bowls made it as bad or worse in both categories, making this one of the least entertaining title games for sure made fans without much interest.

The final head start was a throwback to the disappointing Super Bowls of the 1980s. Washington destroyed Denver, 42-10, in Super Bowl XXII at the end of the 1987 season. San Francisco would destroy Denver again two years later, 55-10, in Super Bowl XXIV. Half of the 10 Super Bowls from that decade had a final lead of 20 points or more. Eight of the ten were double-digit gains.

More recently, Seattle beat Denver (sorry Broncos) 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII, perhaps the least entertaining title game of all time. Tampa Bay defeated Oakland, 48-21, in Super Bowl XXXVII, another one-sided affair. New England and Los Angeles spoiled everyone with a 13-3 slumber party at Super Bowl LIII.

Denver’s blowout losses against Seattle and Washington were the second and third lowest Super Bowls according to our indulgence tracker. The least enjoyable Super Bowl by that metric was Super Bowl III, the Jets’ famous 16: 7 win over the Baltimore Colts.
