The apple doesn’t seem to fall very far from the tree in the Mir household, as Bella Mir, the 17-year-old daughter of UFC legend Frank, made her professional mixed martial arts debut on Thursday.

With her father in the corner, Mir fought her debutante Danielle Wynn at an event in Sonora, Mexico and came out with a unanimous decision (29-28 x3) after three rounds of action, having faced early parts of the fight with her grappling and top Control had dominated.

I was nearing the finish line towards the end of the second round after she once again dominated the altercation and ended the frame raining down the penalty area and pounds, which seemed to tempt the referee momentarily to abandon the fight before Wynn was graciously saved the bell .

Wynn rallied in the third after Mir tried digging into her father’s bag of tricks and performing the infamous Mir arm bar (ask Tim Sylvia about it) before Wynn could recover and commit an offense of his own.

By the end of the last lap it was clear that there was a clear winner in the ring.

“It means so much to me to have my first professional fight and to follow in my father’s footsteps,” she said after her victory.

“I think my nerves got a bit out of my head just because it was something else and I didn’t know what to expect, but in the second and third laps I started to get involved.”

Her father Frank also noticed the pride he felt for his daughter after her debut win, and wrote on Twitter that he was impressed with her performance and not only with her talent but also with her sanity.

I am extremely proud of my daughter Bella. When you’re 17, athletic talent doesn’t always translate into mental strength. In fact, it can weaken it. She overcame adversity and now the world not only knows her talent, but also how strong her mind is. # FearLadyMirpic.twitter.com / 9BajTjZcrF

Frank Mir, 41, is known for being one of only a handful of fighters to have won the UFC heavyweight title. He is perhaps best known for rivalries with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Brock Lesnar. He last fought last October when he scored his own unanimous decision victory against Roy Nelson.

And as the elder Mir’s fighting career approaches its final hurray, there seems to be someone willing and able to take on the cloak.
