Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones confirmed one of the sport’s most notorious rumors when he admitted he hid under a cage in his gym shortly after smoking a marijuana cigarette to avoid drug testers.
Jones, who more than once attracted the ire of UFC drug testers, has long been linked to the story Deadspin first reported in 2015 that said Jones panicked when a tester showed up at his gym unannounced.

As Chael Sonnen reported on an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast in 2016, he said Jones panicked when he saw a drug tester arrive.
“They’re hiding it under the cage. Jon Jones is hiding under the cage,” Sonnen explained to Rogan.
“They say, ‘Jon? We don’t know where he is,’ and this is before we got on the program and he didn’t have to reveal his whereabouts. At the same time, if they show up and find you, you need to test .

In response to a jibe from Adesanya detailing how he once slept under the cage to save gas money instead of going home and citing rumors that Jones was hiding from a drug test, Jones said: “I was hiding from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, not USADA, and that was years ago. I had just dumped and was afraid I would fail my weed test, that’s the real truth. Now everyone knows everyone.”

Jones has been involved in several drug scandals and has previously tested positive for banned substances such as turinabol, clomiphene, letrozole and the “picogram” saga that threatened to derail his career.
It remains to be seen whether the UFC, or even the USADA or the Nevada State Athletic Commission, will react to Jones admitting he was hiding from a drug test, but at least fans of the fight finally get the truth about one of the sport’s most notorious stories Experienced.
