India reported fewer than 50,000 new Covid-19 cases for the first time in three months, the country’s Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday.
A total of at least 46,790 new cases have been reported in the past 24 hours, making a total of at least 7,597,063 cases nationwide.
The country last reported numbers in this area on July 28, with 47,703 new cases.
The number of active cases has fallen below 10% at around 748,538, while the number of recovered cases is 6,733,328 and the national recovery rate has increased to 88.63%.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also addressed the country via a recorded message beginning before the Hindu festival period that began with Navaratri, or “nine nights” on Saturday. Also known as Durja Puja, it ends with Dussehra on Oct. 27. The festivities coincide with harvest time and culminate on Nov. 14 with Diwali, the five-day festival of lights that celebrates the triumph of good over evil.
He urged citizens to maintain social distance and personal hygiene and to wear a mask. He said, “Until you succeed, don’t be negligent. Until the vaccine against this pandemic arrives, we shouldn’t let our fight weaken. “
“Remember, whether it is America or any other country in Europe, coronavirus cases were going down in those countries but suddenly they went up again,” he added.
