Undefeated Moroccan lightweight Ottman Azaitar was incredibly injured by the UFC just the day before his fight at UFC 257 on Fight Island.
Azaitar’s participation was suspected during the official deliberations, during which it was found that he would not get involved in his planned fight with the American Matt Frevola.
And a few hours after the deliberations were completed, UFC President Dana White revealed to Abu Dhabi sports reporter Farah Hannoun that the UFC had taken the decisive step not only to remove Azaitar from the fight card, but also to remove him from the UFC roster altogether.
Hannoun explained the situation in two tweets when it emerged that Azaitar’s indiscretion wasn’t just a routine weighing accident.
“Dana White tells me that Ottman Azaitar was banned from the UFC for violating security protocols,” she began.
“White tells me that Azaitar and his team cut their bracelets and gave them to others outside the security zone, who snuck past security guards and everything was caught on camera.”
White gave BT Sport more details, saying, “They gave their bracelets to people outside the bubble. A man taped them up, showed up here with a bag, went into a room and snuck across four balconies in Ottman’s room and one Put down the bag, changed and then left. “
Azaitar’s careless attitude towards the safety zone on Fight Island has cost him a lot of money as the undefeated Moroccan lost his career on the big stage.
His planned opponent, Frevola, will now face Armen Tsarukyan after Tsarukyan’s counterpart, Nasrat Haqparast, fell ill on the day of the weighing.
