The Argentine government received 800,000 doses of the Russian Sputnik-V coronavirus vaccine on Monday, the president’s office said.

The arrival was announced on the Argentine Presidency’s official Twitter feed, which also showed a video of an Aerolineas Argentinas plane carrying the delivery of cans that arrived in Buenos Aires at night and were unloaded.

According to the Argentine Ministry of Health, the total number of vaccines received is almost 9 million.

A context: Delivery is being made as Argentina sees an increase in new cases. According to the country’s health ministry, the country recorded more than 200,000 new cases in a 24-hour period on 9 different days in April.

On Tuesday, Argentina reported 20,461 new cases of the coronavirus and 248 new deaths, bringing the total number of registered deaths from Covid-19 to 59,476.
