India reported 36,470 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours on Tuesday, the lowest increase since July 17.

This is the ninth straight day the country has reported fewer than 60,000 new cases.

In contrast, the United States reported 66,784 new cases in the past 24 hours, almost twice as many as India reported daily.

According to the Ministry of Health, the total number of confirmed cases in India now stands at 7,946,429, of which 90% have recovered.

The death toll in the country is 119,502, 488 more than the previous day.

India saw its highest daily surge on September 17 when it reported 97,894 new cases – the largest global surge in a single day.

Reopening phase: The most recent decline is due to the country’s beginning to lift coronavirus restrictions last month.

On September 1st India started with “Unlock 4”. The subway ride was allowed to resume from September 7th, and the limit on indoor social gatherings was raised to a maximum of 200 people from October 15th.

Since October 15, schools and other educational institutions have also gradually reopened in several parts of the country such as Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.

The decision about what and when to reopen lies with the state governments.
