A protest against the death of Minnesota man Daunte Wright in a confrontation with police spread across Hollywood on Thursday night as several hundred people marched and held a vigil in Sunset and Vine.

Police were in place to oversee the event as protesters took over the street in a march that began late in the evening. The protesters chanted Wright’s name and Black Lives Matter.

The street protest follows another earlier this month in Hollywood over the death of Louisville, Kentucky-based Breonna Taylor. This protest led to a more aggressive reaction from the police.

Thursday night’s Hollywood protest was one of many across the country this week as Wright’s death and the trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis over his role in the death of George Floyd added tensions.
