Roman Abramovich’s big signings continued to show their worth on the pitch as steadily improving Chelsea continued their formidable form en route to a one-sided win against low Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

Hakim Ziyech’s first goal in the Premier League for the Blues, as well as goals from Kurt Zouma and Timo Werner, who was under contract in the summer, were enough to get the three points for Lampard’s Chelsea, who have been up against champions Liverpool since the 2-0 remains unbeaten for five weeks.

Moroccan Ziyech, a summer import from Ajax, made their first start in the league and was a constant threat. He opened his Premier League account after 26 minutes and after Zouma’s powerful header from a Mason Mount late in the game, he set another corner for Werner, doubling Chelsea’s advantage.

Outstanding performance from @ChelseaFC. You play wonderful football. 👏🏻

Last week #CFC had to travel to Man Utd, Krasnodar and Burnley. To have two convincing wins and a positive draw is very positive. A lot more comes from this team.

Couldn’t have been better, especially after a long trip to Russia. Still in its infancy, this Chelsea team is slowly taking shape and is really starting to click. Momentum is with us right now! # CFC # BURCHE # PLhttps: //

But as impressive as the galaxy of the team’s strikers was, Lampard will have benefited equally from the performance of his much-criticized backline. Edouard Mendy was once again impressive, conceding a fifth straight clean sheet and again underlining the stark contrast between his performances and those of the man he replaced in goal, Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Mendy’s run of three straight clean sheets is the biggest since Petr Cech did the same feat in 2004/05. Cech is now a technical advisor to the club and was instrumental in Mendy’s recruitment.

Chelsea haven’t conceded a goal when all three new signings from Silva, Chilwell and Mendy started a game together! So far they have started FIVE games and Chelsea have conceded no goals in all FIVE games! The difference these guys made is unreal.

Another new signing, Brazilian veteran Thiago Silva was re-armbanded in the absence of Cesar Azpilicueta and Jorginho and showed signs of a thriving partnership with Zouma. Ben Chilwell, another capital added by Abramovich’s millions, was also busy at his work on the left.

The win at Turf Moor is an excellent week for the Lampard men and follows the 4-0 Champions League win against Russian club Krasnodar in the middle of the week. They finished fourth in the Premier League, one point ahead of leaders Everton.

Lampard and his team will return home to Rennes on Wednesday.
