Khamzat Chimaev has hinted that the UFC should make sure he doesn’t crossbreed with infamous Irishman Conor McGregor if the couple hits Fight Island headlines within days of next month.

Russian-born Chimaev and Dublin-born McGregor will both be in Abu Dhabi in January when the UFC returns to their second home for a three-card run for the New Year.

Chimaev takes on Briton Leon Edwards in Fight Night 185 on January 20th, touted as a clash between welterweight title contenders, while McGregor attacks Dustin Poirier again three days later in his light headliner at UFC 257.

Chimaev has previously told RT Sport that he disapproves of some of McGregor’s antics, not the least of which was his attack on an older man in Dublin in April 2019.

Chechnya-born Chimaev said he would “kill” the Irishman if he ever stooped so low that he hit his father.

The couple have also been barbaric traders online, and ‘Borz’ has now joked that the UFC would be wise to keep him and McGregor at bay during their time on Fight Island.

“If I see him on Fight Island, something will definitely happen. The UFC has to hide it, ”said Chimaev with a smile during an Instagram live chat with Russian MMA journalist Igor Lazorin.

Chimaev also announced that after an explosive 2020, he had signed a new contract with the UFC in which he won his first three bouts with promotion in just 66 days.

“There are already different numbers there,” said the unbeaten 26-year-old as he prepared for his showdown with Edwards, which was rearranged from December after the Briton tested positive for Covid-19.

Edwards, 29, is eight times unbeaten in the UFC but has not fought since July 2019 when he unanimously defeated Rafael dos Anjos.

Chimaev, who trains from the AllStars gym in Stockholm, is 9-0 in professional MMA but faces a big step up against Edwards.
