Undefeated UFC fighter Tracy Cortez found herself frustrated with getting just half a pound over the limit for her most recent win when she said the doctors denied her the opportunity to take an hour off the extra weight to reduce.

Flyweight newcomer and social media sensation Cortez was just over the limit before her decisive win against St. Petersburg-born veteran Justine Kish in Las Vegas. She took a points win and lost 20 percent of her wallet due to the problem.

Cortez thought that after the first weigh-in the day before the fight, she would have the extra time, only to be denied the opportunity to resume her cut before her third UFC win.

“They usually give us an hour to lose weight, but they didn’t clear me up,” Cortez said, hitting 126.5 pounds on the scales. “The doctor didn’t have me cut half a pound.

“He checked me out and didn’t agree to my shedding the rest of the weight. I could have cut it: I could have peed it, but he wouldn’t let me.

“I would have cut it 100 percent. I wouldn’t have jumped on the scales to lose weight at point five.

“I would never have done that. I have never lost weight in my life or career so I was really frustrated.

“My coach fought her. He said, ‘If she goes to the bathroom again, can we just wait?

“They said, ‘If she goes again, that will be the last weigh-in.’ We said, ‘Can we look again?’ “

The 27-year-old has no plans to move up to bantamweight. “I’ll see how I feel, how I’ve recovered,” she praised her team.

“I want to be active, stay at the flyweight and make a name for myself here.”
