Leading US health officials announced Friday that they have not yet found a “causal” link between the Johnson & Johnson COVID shot and the blood clots, as the EU Medicines Agency investigated possible cases in those who received the vaccine .

“At this point in time, we have not established a causal link with the vaccination and are continuing our investigation and assessment of these cases,” said a statement from the US Food and Drug Administration.

The regulator said it knew “some people” in the US who had blood clots and low platelet counts after receiving the vaccine from J&J.

“Both conditions can have many different causes,” said the FDA. “We’ll keep the public informed as soon as we learn more.”

Four cases of rare blood clots with low platelets have been reported, one of which was vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson shot, according to a statement from the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
