The annual holiday tradition of a special edition Doctor Who is about to take some shocking twists as it launches.
The Doctor’s archenemy, the Daleks, will have a new look. Gone is the toilet plunger and the rough mechanical outside. Now the Daleks have a sleek new look that was featured on the front of the new Radio Times magazine, which the picture leaked Thursday.
Of greater interest to many is the special, which also marks the return of Torchwood leader Captain Jack Harkness, played by John Barrowman.
“Put on Jack’s coat and step back on the set of Doctor Who like going home,” Barrowman said in a statement. “It’s always exciting to play Captain Jack. He is a character that is very close to my heart and who has changed my life. Knowing that the fans love him as much as I do makes his return even sweeter. Hope everyone enjoys Jack’s heroic adventure at thirteen. “
In the vacation special “Revolution of the Daleks” the doctor is locked in a highly secure alien prison. Isolated, alone and with no hope of escape. Far away on earth, her best friends Yaz, Ryan and Graham have to take up their lives without her. But it’s not easy, considering that old habits die hard. Especially when they discover a disruptive plan – a plan that a Dalek is involved in.
“Revolution of the Daleks” will air on BBC America this holiday season. The exact broadcast date was not disclosed.
