The 25-year-old said she would love to enjoy summer holidays, with the last holiday season badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I want to close my eyes and see myself by the sea,” said the world and Olympic champion.

Chigireva and the rest of her teammates attended a training camp at Round Lake in the Moscow region and resumed full-time training after a long hiatus due to the coronavirus crisis.

The swimmer, who has eleven world and three European championship titles in addition to her Olympic gold, is preparing to defend her title at the summer games in Tokyo next year.

Russia’s “mermaids”, as the country’s synchronized swimmers are often called, have been unbeaten on the international stage in 20 years since they won the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.
